Committed to Achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions
The backbone of Vicinity’s decarbonization plan is the rapid electrification of its operations. The company has a detailed, phased strategy to install new technologies like electric boilers, industrial-scale heat pumps, and thermal salt batteries, before the end of the decade.
Fischbach & Moore assumed a crucial responsibility in the installation process:
- Secured the electrical installation contract for a groundbreaking 42-MW electric steam boiler at Vicinity Energy in Cambridge, Massachusetts, marking the initial step in a comprehensive strategy to produce carbon-free thermal energy, or eSteam
- The project involved the replacement of 13,800-volt electrical switchgear and the installation of new conduit, cables, pumps, motors, and variable-speed drives to support the operation of the new boiler
Vicinity has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and we are excited to be part of that goal.
