Revitalizing Power Infrastructure for Improved Transportation

The Traction Power Upgrade project spearheaded by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) aimed at revitalizing the entire power infrastructure.

Fischbach & Moore was responsible for a multitude of components:

  • Complete replacement of AC and DC switchgear at four key traction power substations: Oak Grove, Malden, Sullivan Square, and Wellington
  • Installation of new lighting, fire alarm systems, ventilation equipment, plumbing upgrades, and exterior enhancements at each location
  • Execution of meticulous equipment removal and seamless integration of new components
  • Deployment and testing of two sets of mobile substations (AC and DC) to ensure uninterrupted services during upgrades

Ensuring reliability and efficiency, this initiative paves the way for enhanced commuter experiences on the Orange Line.
